The Sentinel is the new multi-level rebreather from Closed Circuit Research, the manufactures of the Ouroboros and world famous VR3 dive computer. The units first production run was in the spring of 2008 the unit is available in 3 versions: a 40-meter entry-level unit; a 60-meter normoxic trimix unit & a 100-meter heliox unit.

The unit encompasses many of the design concepts of the flag ship unit the Ouroborous following the same rear mounted counter lung design but with some slight differences in that theirs only one lung and the scrubber/canister is used as the other. It comes complete ready to dive with tanks, harness and wing

The unit weighs 31 kg in shipping crate without cylinders. It can be separated into several pieces for easy transport if required and there is a travel frame enabling the diver to travel light and mount on type of cylinders they can rent.

The scrubber stack has been tested and rated to 185 minutes at CE testing rates in 40 metres of water on an air diluent and 150 minutes at CE testing rates in 100 metres of water on a heliox diluent. It is the most efficient per kg of any commercially available rebreather currently on the market and holds 2.2kg of 797 grade 1 to 2.5 mm sofnolime granules.

An additional unique feature of the sentinel is the thermal profile monitor (TPM) to measure the temperature of the absorbent in the scrubber, this in turn is displayed as a graph on the primary display. The software also counts the solenoid fires and calculates a percentage remaining based on O2 metabolism providing the user an indication of scrubber efficiency and duration.
